Before You Go

Lyrics and Music by Barbara S. Garriel

Before you go,
Would you hold me one last time, and let me know,
There really was a time I meant the world to you
And I could count on you to always be right there
So I will know, it wasn’t all for show.

Before you go,
There are some things I think I have the right to know,
If I ask you would you tell the truth
Or fill my head with your sweet lies,
The ones you’ve told a million times.
I have to know, a simple yes or no.

When you’re gone, I’ll carry on.
Days will pass unnoticed.
Nights will last too long.
Knowing that you won’t return
My breaking heart will have to learn
To go on without you. That’s all that I can do.

Before you go, there’s only one more thing
I really need to know.
Once you say those words I’ll know for sure
You were never really mine
Your heart was hers through all that time.
I need to know, though I wish it weren’t so.

For one brief moment, I saw a glimmer
And held my breath to make it last.
But when I reached out to touch your shoulder,
You turned away, the moment passed.

Now you’re gone, I’ll carry on.
Days will pass unnoticed.
Nights will last too long.
When you don’t return,
My broken heart will finally learn
How alone I was with you,
There’s no more I can do.
I guess I always knew.
