WRITE OUT LOUD!
Middle and High School

In this engaging and informative presentation, Barbara Garriel shares how books are created. She shows the process, from idea to finished product, through her non-fiction books including: Wolves and Their Ways, Underwater Cities – The Coral Reefs, and Endangered Sea Life, and her picture book, I Know a Shy Fellow Who Swallowed a Cello. Using a PowerPoint slide show, she shares “on-location” anecdotes, writer’s notebooks, author’s drafts and illustrator’s sketches, revision examples, press proofs and finished books. Barbara offers a look inside the home and professional life of an author.  Writing workshops complement the presentations.

WRITE OUT LOUD 2! – GET REAL WITH NON-FICTION
Middle and High School

Barbara shares the steps in the publishing process of exploring, researching, writing, and revising non-fiction books by incorporating a variety of visual aids.  Vibrant photographs, demonstrations, and discussion of the components of non-fiction shape this interactive program. Barbara shares works-in-progress, as well as, on-location anecdotes from outside and inside the home and professional life of an author.  Her environmental books, such as, The Underwater Life of Rivers, Wolves and Their Ways, Endangered Sea Life, and Sharks, have high visual interest and appeal and make for excellent tie-ins with Earth Day and Environmental studies programs, and follow-up writing workshops.
